Every race tells a story beyond the finishing order. Today, we’re introducing ICLR—iRacing Champions League Driver Rating—a way to follow how drivers perform across the iRacing Champions League.
You can see each driver’s current ICLR on their profile and in the ICLR Rankings. Race results also show how much their rating moved that night in the ICLR +/- column. ICLR is our own league rating; it is separate from iRacing’s iRating and from season championship points.
How does ICLR work?
Every driver starts at 1,000. After each ICL race, ICLR looks at where they finished compared with the other drivers in that race—and how those drivers were rated coming in.
Think of it like a night at the track: beating a strong field is a bigger statement than getting the same finish against a less experienced one. If you finish ahead of drivers the rating expected to beat you, your ICLR can make a bigger jump. If drivers you were expected to beat finish ahead of you, it can fall. Each head-to-head finish in the field contributes to the result, so the rating reflects more than whether you won.
New drivers’ ratings can move faster during their first 10 starts while the system learns where they fit. As they build a race history, their rating becomes steadier. Experience still matters, but simply making starts will not outweigh what a driver does on track.
The most recent 10 starts also carry extra weight. A driver on a hot streak can climb; a rough run can pull the rating back. That recent-form effect builds in gradually and has a limit, so one stretch cannot erase a long career. There is still just one overall ICLR number to follow.
ICLR uses ICL finishing results—not qualifying position, starting spot, championship points, laps led, or iRacing’s iRating. On each race page, the ICL Strength of Field shows the average ICLR that the drivers brought into that race. It describes the field before the green flag, not the points awarded afterward.
