Round 3 of the ICL Mini Stock Central Region Championship brought the series to USA International Speedway, and Casey Wynn continued to set the pace for the season. Wynn grabbed the win and added another massive points haul in a format where every spot matters — 12 points to win, one less per position behind, plus 1 point for qualifying fast time. With three races now in the books, the championship picture is starting to form, and Wynn is building real separation at the top after opening the season with a win and backing it up with another strong points night here.
The race started with immediate pressure at the front, led by one of the night’s biggest storylines: Dustin German. In his first career ICL start, German came out swinging — leading the opening lap while he and Wynn raced side-by-side. Wynn took control on lap two and never let go, but German refused to fade, staying within a couple car lengths as the two leaders pulled away from the rest of the field. Wynn ultimately led 29 of 30 laps, pairing that dominance with the fastest lap of the race (24.622) to underline just how strong his pace was throughout the run.
Behind the lead duo, the battle for the remaining top-five spots was just as important for the standings. Doug Welch delivered a steady, valuable 3rd-place run, and Brayden E Carter put together one of the best charge drives of the night — climbing from 9th to 4th to bank critical points. That kind of forward progress is huge in this points system, especially when the leader is stacking wins. BJ Mitchell once again proved he’s the definition of consistency: in his 3rd career ICL start, Mitchell finished 5th — and remarkably, he has now finished 5th in every event he’s entered.
The hard-charger spotlight goes to Chuck Benedick, who made the biggest positional move among the finishers by charging from 14th to 8th (+6). On the flip side, Peyton Worden2 had one of the tougher nights in terms of track position, slipping from 7th to 11th (–4) despite staying on the lead lap and completing all 30 circuits. Those small swings matter more and more as the series grows and the points gaps tighten behind the leader.
In the standings, Wynn’s win continues to pay off in a big way. He now leads the championship with 32 points and has already put a noticeable gap on the field. The biggest mover is Doug Welch, who jumps up into 2nd on 16 points, giving him a strong foothold in the chase as the calendar moves forward. German’s runner-up in his debut instantly launches him into the top group as well, and with several winners and podium threats already showing up early, the Central Region title fight is shaping up to be a weekly grind where one big run can rewrite the standings.
