Race 2 of the Super Late Model East Regional Series (Season 2) brought the field to The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway for a 30-lap showdown that immediately tightened the championship picture. With the points format paying 12 for the win (one less per position) plus a 1-point bonus for qualifying fast time, Charlotte delivered a “max points” opportunity—and it didn’t take long for the top two to turn it into a headline night.
At the front, Brayden E Carter converted a complete performance into the win, scoring 13 total points (12 for the victory + 1 for the qualifying fast-time bonus). Carter also laid down the fastest lap of the race (14.916), adding another clear marker that his pace was the real deal. The win was also Carter’s 65th career ICL victory, a milestone that makes Charlotte a memorable stop even this early in the season.
Right behind him, Aidan Strawberry kept doing exactly what wins championships: stacking top finishes. Strawberry finished 2nd for 11 points, and the margin at the stripe was tight at 0.877. Notes from the event highlight that Carter and Strawberry went back-and-forth for the lead multiple times, and the lap-led totals back it up—Strawberry led 20 laps to Carter’s 10, showing just how much the race swung between them even though Carter claimed the biggest points haul.
The podium and top-five storylines were just as important for the points battle going forward. Chance Sealy2 delivered an immediate statement in his first career ICL start, charging from 8th to 3rd to grab 10 points. Just behind, Samuel Wright5 advanced from 10th to 4th, scoring 9 points in what was noted as his best career finish. And the biggest mover in the field was Ty Bumgarner, who put together the night’s hard-charger drive—16th to 5th—a massive +11 position gain that turned into an 8-point result.
Further back, Dennis Holley landed 6th for 7 points, while Jason Brown12 went 11th to 7th for 6 points, another strong climb that matters in a seven-race season where every point becomes leverage later. On the other side of the coin, the toughest swing of the night belonged to Tyler Davisson, who started 3rd but was scored 16th, the largest drop in positions (-13). When the field is this close in points, nights like that can quickly turn into uphill battles in the standings.
When you zoom out to the championship picture, Charlotte made one thing crystal clear: attendance and consistency are already shaping the title fight, and there are five races left to flip it all. Strawberry now leads the standings with 22 points—two straight runner-up finishes—while Carter and Jake Silvia are tied for second at 13 points after each posted a perfect 13-point maximum in their lone starts so far. That creates a fascinating tension: Strawberry has the lead through reliability, while the race winners have proven they can score the biggest single-night total, but they’ll need to keep showing up (and keep grabbing that qualifying bonus point when possible) to close the gap.
What’s Next
Race 3 takes the series to Oswego Speedway Dirt, the next stop on the 7-race schedule. With the points lead already being defined by who can stack finishes week-to-week—and the qualifying bonus point showing real value—Oswego becomes a key round for anyone looking to cut into Strawberry’s early advantage.
