Race 2 of the Super Late Model Lucas Oil Championship brought the field back to Lucas Oil Speedway, and the second round of the six-race series immediately tightened the points battle at the top. After Brandon Holtmeier opened the season with a maximum 13-point night in Race 1, Carter answered in a big way in Race 2 by taking the win and putting the championship fight on a razor’s edge. With the ICL format paying 12 points for the win and then one less per position behind, every finish mattered, and this time Carter’s victory was enough to keep the early title race very much alive.
Carter’s win was a major one on multiple levels. He led all 30 laps at Lucas Oil Speedway and picked up 12 points for the victory, giving him his 78th career ICL win. That kind of number says everything about the level of experience and success he brings whenever he unloads. Carter’s average lap of 15.012 was the best among the front-runners, and once he got control of the race, nobody was able to take it away. Still, the 1-point qualifying bonus played a huge role in the final points breakdown. Brandon Holtmeier started on the pole, grabbed the bonus point, and finished 2nd, which allowed him to leave the night with 12 total points instead of 11. That single point is the reason Holtmeier still leads the championship by two after two races.
Behind the front two, Brenden McGlothlin put together one of the most impressive drives of the night. Starting 11th and finishing 3rd, McGlothlin gained eight positions and turned that into a 10-point finish. That was the biggest move forward among the top finishers and the kind of run that can change the complexion of a short championship quickly. Jayden Reger was another standout story. In his first career ICL start, Reger finished 4th and immediately put himself on the radar in this series. Aidan Strawberry also made a major climb, charging from 15th to 5th, a gain of 10 spots, while also showing raw speed with a 14.723 fastest lap—one of the strongest indicators that he had race-winning pace somewhere in the field.
There were more momentum-building nights deeper in the order as well. Cody Malasek backed up his opening round with another solid result, finishing 6th after starting 4th and climbing to 4th in the standings overall. Krista Freeman3 brought home 7th, Cody Ritenour finished 8th, and Michael D Carter landed in 9th. One of the tougher nights among the lead group belonged to Dusty Fincher, who started 5th but slipped back to 10th, the largest drop among the top 10 finishers. In a six-race championship, those swings matter, because even one off night can change who controls the points conversation.
After two races, the championship picture has become exactly what a short series needs to be: close, layered, and full of pressure. Holtmeier sits on top with 25 points, while Carter is right behind at 23, only two back. That means the title fight is effectively one finishing position apart going into Race 3, and the qualifying bonus point is already proving to be a huge factor. McGlothlin’s big jump moved him up seven positions into 3rd overall with 13 points, while Malasek climbed four spots into 4th with 12. With four races still remaining, there is still plenty of time for the order to shuffle, but Lucas Oil Speedway has already made one thing clear: the fight for this championship is not going to leave much margin for error.
