The ICL 305 Sprints National Tour opens Season 3 at Knoxville Raceway, where the series’ first two visits produced two different winners and a perfect record for those winners in laps led. Randy Shreves controlled all 15 laps of the inaugural Knoxville race, while Colton Zimmer led all 18 laps in Season 2. Now, Knoxville will launch a 21-race championship with another opportunity to add a name to the track’s winners list.
Shreves won the first Knoxville event on March 27, 2023, starting from the pole and recording the race’s fastest lap at 17.666 seconds. Zimmer advanced from third to second, while Aidan Strawberry finished third after starting second. Tyler McKim and Trey Mills completed the top five. The victory became part of a three-win season for Shreves, who ultimately finished just one point behind Strawberry in the championship.
That first visit also featured several notable gains through the field. Casey Wynn moved from 13th to eighth, gaining five positions to earn Hard Charger honors among the listed finishers. Kinser Lightner climbed from ninth to sixth, while Seth Gregory finished seventh. Those performances provide another part of Knoxville’s series history beyond the battle for the victory.
Zimmer improved on his Season 1 runner-up finish when the tour returned on July 2, 2024. Starting second, he led every lap and posted the fastest lap at 17.530 seconds. Dean Reynolds finished second after starting third, and Joseph Grandy advanced from fourth to third. Richie Gaines and Russell Thorpe rounded out the top five, each gaining one position from where they started.
Across those two Knoxville appearances, Zimmer has a victory, a runner-up finish, and 18 laps led. That makes his record at the track particularly strong as the series prepares for its third visit. His Season 2 Knoxville victory joined wins at Cedar Lake Speedway and Williams Grove Speedway during a campaign that ended with him second in points, 34 behind Strawberry.
Strawberry remains the series’ championship benchmark, having claimed both previous titles and eight victories across the first two seasons. However, Knoxville remains absent from his National Tour win list. He finished third in the inaugural event and does not appear in the supplied Season 2 Knoxville results. A victory here would add another venue to the two-time champion’s record.
The championship picture extends beyond the previous Knoxville winners. Season 2 produced 15 different winners across 20 races, with only Strawberry, Zimmer, and JT Ferry earning multiple victories. Gaines finished third in the standings, followed by Brenden McGlothlin and Brian Moore Sr, despite all three completing the season without a win. Their results demonstrated how consistently collecting points can build a strong championship finish.
That process begins again at Knoxville. Each race awards 12 points to the winner, followed by 11 for second, 10 for third, and one fewer point for each subsequent position in the points-paying order. The fastest qualifier earns an additional Quick Time point, making 13 the maximum available in one event. With the first championship decided by a single point, the opening round’s qualifying bonus and finishing positions could matter well beyond race night.
Season 3 is open to everyone through public hosted lobbies, with no advance sign-up required and no ICL membership needed to race. The announced championship purse totals $75 across the top five positions, split $25, $20, $15, $10, and $5, with VIP membership required for payout eligibility. Knoxville opens the 21-track schedule, which concludes at Huset’s Speedway.
The opening round will establish the first points picture of the new season while adding to a Knoxville history already defined by commanding winning performances. Shreves and Zimmer have set the standard at this venue. Season 3 brings the next opportunity to match it.
