Race 2 of the Super Late Model Thompson Speedway Championship delivered an immediate reset to the Season 1 title picture. After Jake Silvia opened the series with a perfect 13-point night, the second round at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park reminded everyone how quickly the math can change in a six-race format. With 12 points on the line for the win plus 1 bonus point for quick time, every spot matters — and with four races still remaining, the drivers who can stack finishes now are going to control the championship conversation.
Braxton DeWeese left no doubt in Round 2. DeWeese won from the pole, collected the quick time bonus point, and led all 30 laps on the way to the maximum 13 points. He also posted the fastest lap of the race (20.174), putting a complete performance on the board and adding another milestone to his ICL resume with his 8th career win. The result wasn’t just a trophy — it was a points swing that moved DeWeese from second to first in the standings, and it did it in a single night.
The biggest mover in the championship was Davis Warren, who turned his entire season around with a hard-charging drive from 5th to 2nd. That three-position gain was the best improvement in the field, and it also marked Warren’s best finish of the young Thompson season after opening the series in sixth. Those 11 points launched him four spots up the standings into second overall, trimming the gap to the lead to a manageable margin with plenty of races left to make a run.
Behind Warren, Brayden E Carter and Aidan Strawberry both rebounded from early trouble to salvage strong points. Carter finished third and Strawberry finished fourth, and with the points paying straight down the order, those 10 and 9 point nights kept both drivers firmly in the championship mix. The early contact between Strawberry and Carter put them well behind early, but both recovered to turn what could have been a points disaster into a result that still matters in a six-race chase. It also represented season-best finishes for both: Carter improved from seventh to third, and Strawberry improved from fifth to fourth.
Larsen Parker’s night showed how quickly the table can turn at Thompson. After starting second and running up front early, Parker pulled out while in second and was credited with fifth at the finish with 16 laps completed. Cody McCann’s night ended even sooner, crashing out early and completing just one lap. In a championship where the winner can score 13 and the gap between positions is always one point, these are the kinds of races that drivers can’t afford — especially with only four events remaining to make up ground.
With two races down, the points race is already starting to form clear pressure points. DeWeese leads on 24 points, but Warren sits only six back — and a six-point swing can happen fast when quick time is in play. Strawberry and Carter are separated by a single point in third and fourth, and Silvia’s absence from Race 2 dropped him to fifth despite opening the season with the maximum score. If Silvia returns to the track, he’s still within reach — but in a six-race championship, missing races forces near-perfect nights the rest of the way. The next four rounds will decide whether DeWeese can keep building his cushion, or if the challengers can turn the bonus point and the finishing-position ladder into a late-season surge.
