Round 4 of the ICL Modified Lernerville Championship at Lernerville Speedway delivered a feature that felt like it was constantly resetting the order—without ever letting the pace drop. The 25-lap main was equal parts survival and speed, and by the time the dust settled, Andy Hunter emerged with his first career win in just his 6th start, turning a wild night into a season-changing points haul.
The race’s defining moments came early. A massive incident on lap 2 on the front stretch collected a huge chunk of the field and forced multiple drivers to park it for the night. Then, just two laps later, another major turning point hit: on lap 4, a big incident involving the leaders—Hunter, Brenden McGlothlin, Johnnie Tucker, and Blake Henn—shook everything up while they were fighting for control near the front. Hunter came out of it with the cleanest path forward and assumed command, while McGlothlin’s night was dramatically altered by damage that ripped the left-front area up.
What made Hunter’s win so impressive was the way he closed it out from there. Once he had clean air, he controlled the pace to the finish, led 22 laps, set the fastest lap of the race (15.746), and also earned the qualifying fast time bonus point—a near-perfect scoring night under the ICL format (12 for the win, plus 1 bonus). In a race where the field kept getting reshuffled behind him, Hunter stayed mistake-free and fast enough to keep the door shut.
The other headline was McGlothlin’s salvage job. After the lap-4 chaos ripped his car up, it looked like his night might be over—but he somehow kept it going and muscled his way all the way back to second. That recovery drive matters even more in a Lernerville-only championship where every point stacks on the same battlefield. McGlothlin also led a lap during the scramble, making this a two-lap-leader race, but the bigger takeaway was how many points he saved on a night that could’ve been devastating.
Behind the top two, the race produced some season-defining personal bests. Aaron Crowell logged the best finish of his career with a strong 5th-place result in only his 4th career start, while Dale Farness charged forward for a podium-worthy 3rd. Doug Welch delivered another valuable top-five run in 4th, and the rest of the top 10 featured a mix of drivers who capitalized on the changing order and made their night count in the standings.
The points picture took a sharp turn after Round 4. McGlothlin still leads the championship with 36 points, but the biggest mover was Hunter, who jumped up the order and now sits tied for second on points (23) with Aiden W Stull. That’s a huge development with the season entering its final stretch—McGlothlin has been the benchmark, but now he has two legitimate challengers right on the next rung, and the fight behind them is tight enough that one strong run can completely reshape the top 10.
