The Lucas Oil Off Road Championship returned to for Round 3, and the front of the field once again belonged to Sean Winkler and Zach Amspacher. After two races of hard-fought battles and tight points, the pair delivered another classic eight-lap sprint, trading the lead and pushing each other right to the final set of corners. When it was over, Winkler stood atop the box for the third race in a row, extending his undefeated start to Season 1 while Amspacher kept the title fight very much alive.

This one didn’t come easy. Amspacher started from pole after earning the QuickTime bonus in qualifying, immediately grabbing the early lead and setting the tone with what would become the fastest lap of the race at 1:13.588. Winkler rolled off third but wasted little time getting to second and closing in on Zach’s back bumper. The turning point came in the whoops when Amspacher went around, handing the lead to Winkler and dropping Zach back to third. From there the race turned into a chase: Amspacher regrouped, worked his way back past David Holdren, and spent the closing laps reeling Winkler in. On the final lap he pulled alongside in the last few turns, but Winkler held firm and beat him back to the line to complete the sweep.

Behind the top two, David Holdren delivered his best run of the championship so far. Starting fourth, he kept his truck clean, took advantage of Amspacher’s mid-race mistake, and briefly held second before Zach’s recovery drive. Holdren ultimately finished third, earning 10 points and jumping seven spots in the standings to fourth overall – the biggest move of the night on the season board. Christian Noble matched his fourth-place starting spot with a fourth-place finish and a strong 1:17.284 best lap, while Aidan Strawberry endured one of the tougher races of his season, slipping from second on the grid to fifth at the flag. Bryson Myers rounded out the field in sixth after a disconnected run that left him three laps down but still on the score sheet.

Statistically, Winkler was once again the complete package. From third on the grid he gained two positions – enough to claim hard-charger honors on a night when most of the field finished close to where they started. He also showed excellent long-run pace, backing up his move to the front with a 1:14.248 fastest lap and a 1:14.941 average, while leading seven of the eight laps. Amspacher’s drive was arguably just as impressive: despite the spin in the whoops, he still collected 11 points for second plus 1 point for QuickTime, giving him 12 points on the night and keeping Winkler from running away entirely in the standings.

After three of six rounds, the points picture is starting to sharpen. Under the Pro 2 format – 12 points for the win, 11 for second, one point less per position after that, plus 1 point for qualifying fast time – Winkler now sits on 38 points, the result of three wins in three starts plus two QuickTime bonuses from earlier in the season. Strawberry’s steady finishes keep him second on 24 points, and while Round 3 was his toughest outing so far, he still holds a narrow edge over Amspacher, who is third on 23 points thanks to two straight runner-up finishes and a bonus from this latest event. Holdren’s big leap moves him to 14 points in fourth, while Bryan Brewer and Brandon Dittmer sit tied for fifth on 10 points apiece. With three races still to run and 39 potential points left on the table for any driver who can sweep the remaining schedule, the door is still open for a late charge – but Winkler’s perfect record means the rest of the field has some serious work to do.
