The inaugural King of Martinsville Speedway series came to a close at Martinsville Speedway with the Super Late Model finale, and Ryan Kuhn delivered one of the most dominant performances of the entire season. In his first career iRacing Champions League start, Kuhn started on the pole, led all 30 laps, set the fastest lap of the race with a 19.437, and completed a perfect 13-point night with the qualifying bonus. On a night when the championship battle had most of the spotlight, Kuhn stole plenty of attention for himself by controlling the race from start to finish and closing the series with a statement win.
Behind Kuhn, the battle for the remaining podium spots carried massive championship implications. Aidan Strawberry finished second and did everything he could to apply pressure in the title fight, while Devin Gullo continued his late-season surge with a third-place finish. Brayden E Carter crossed the line fourth, keeping himself in the mix until the very end, and Aaron Stoltz rounded out the top five. Stoltz was right in the middle of the fight for second when he went around while racing with Dale Owen, a moment that reshaped the battle behind Kuhn and changed the complexion of the closing laps.
For the championship contenders, the race was full of tension from the beginning. Casey Wynn entered the finale with the points lead, but it was anything but a clean cruise to the title. Wynn fought through several incidents and close calls before bringing the car home sixth, and that result turned out to be just enough to hang on and secure the championship. Strawberry’s runner-up finish brought him within striking distance, but Wynn’s ability to salvage points when the race could have easily unraveled made the difference in the final standings.
The final race also continued the season-long theme of new faces stepping up at Martinsville Speedway. Kuhn became yet another first-time series winner in this inaugural championship, and he did it in total command. Gullo’s third-place finish backed up his Tour Modified win and helped him make one of the biggest moves in the final standings, jumping up into a tie for fifth overall. Dale Owen also put together a notable drive, finishing 11th after starting third, while Matthew Macdonald8 and Danny Hayes added points-paying runs in a field where every finishing position mattered.
In the end, Wynn’s body of work across the full nine-race slate is what earned him the crown. He finished the season with 72 points, edging Strawberry by just two markers, 72-70, while Carter ended only seven back in third at 65. That razor-thin margin shows exactly how valuable every bonus point and every finishing position became over the course of the series. Wynn did not need to win the finale, but he did need to survive it, and that is exactly what he managed to do. Strawberry’s consistency nearly carried him all the way to the championship, while Carter’s steady season kept him alive deep into the finale.
The King of Martinsville Speedway series lived up to its billing in its first season. Nine races, multiple divisions, a long list of different winners, and a championship that stayed undecided until the final night made it one of the most compelling ICL storylines of the year. Kuhn may have dominated the finale, but the biggest headline belongs to Wynn, who leaves Martinsville Speedway as the first-ever King of Martinsville Speedway champion. In a series built on versatility and consistency, he did just enough in the final round to seal the title and put his name first in the history books.
