Robert Taylor16 opened the Atlanta Legend Car Championship with a perfect points night at the EchoPark infield Legends oval, winning Race 1 of the new ICL Legends series. Taylor16 started from the pole, earned the Quick Time bonus, led all 25 laps, and scored the maximum 13 points to take the early championship lead.
The victory was also a major career milestone for Taylor16, as it marked his first career ICL win in just his third career start. With 12 points going to the race winner and one bonus point available for Quick Time, Taylor16 made the most of the opening night and immediately put himself in control of the six-race championship.
Braxton Deweese kept the pressure on Taylor16 for much of the race and made one final push coming to the finish. Deweese was able to pull alongside in the final turn, but he spun coming to the checkers and dropped a few positions, finishing fourth. That late moment opened the door for Kyler Huffine to finish second and James Lucas4 to come home third.
Huffine had one of the biggest drives of the night, charging from 13th to second to earn hard charger honors with an 11-position gain. Huffine also tied Deweese for the fastest lap of the race, with both drivers posting a 15.864. Even without the win, Huffine’s runner-up finish gives him 11 points and puts him second in the standings after Race 1.
James Lucas4 finished third after starting second, giving him 10 points to begin the Atlanta Legend Car Championship. Deweese finished fourth with nine points, while Aidan Strawberry rounded out the top five with eight points. Doug Welch, Brayden E Carter, Michael Tomlin, Justin Deal, and Jesse Lynch2 completed the top 10.
The toughest night by position loss belonged to Peyton Worden2, who started eighth and finished 13th. Chase Lewis also lost ground after starting seventh and finishing 11th. On the other side, Michael Tomlin gained three spots from 11th to eighth, while Jesse Lynch2 gained two positions from 12th to 10th.
Because this was Race 1 of the Atlanta Legend Car Championship, the points standings are just beginning to take shape. Taylor16 leads with 13 points, Huffine sits second with 11, and Lucas4 is third with 10. With five races remaining and 13 points available each night when including the Quick Time bonus, the championship is still wide open, but Taylor16 has already set the early standard at EchoPark.
