The iRacing Champions League Midget National Tour continues its third season this week as the series travels to Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55. The Missouri bullring is one of the most demanding tracks on the calendar, where tight corners and constant pressure test drivers lap after lap. Following an action-packed opener at Kern County, the championship race is already heating up.
Recapping Round 1 at Kern County
Season 3 began at Kern County Raceway Park, where fans witnessed a thrilling three-way duel for the win. Aidan Strawberry emerged victorious, pulling ahead late to secure the opening-round victory and take the early points lead. Just behind, Gavyn Krupp and Craig Silby finished on his heels, leaving the standings incredibly tight heading into I-55. With the entire top nine separated by only eight points, every lap at Pevely carries extra weight.
A Look Back: I-55 in Tour History
The Midget National Tour has made two previous stops at I-55, each producing a very different storyline:
-
Season 1 (Dec 29, 2022): Jordan Richards charged from ninth on the grid to win in a 15-lap feature that saw three different leaders and two lead changes. His come-from-behind drive remains one of the tourβs most memorable victories.
-
Season 2 (Mar 10, 2024): Maison Cofffey started from pole and delivered a flawless flag-to-flag performance, leading all 18 laps in a caution-free race. The win was an important milestone in his championship season.
Those results highlight I-55βs unpredictable natureβsometimes producing heroic charges from the back, other times rewarding the fastest qualifier with a clean sweep.
What to Expect in Round 2
With points so tight after Kern, Round 2 has the potential to shuffle the standings dramatically. The bullring layout leaves little room for error, and lapped traffic often plays a role in deciding outcomes. Whether it produces another dominant wire-to-wire win or a charge from deep in the field, one thing is certain: I-55 will be pivotal in shaping the early-season narrative.
