The Super Late Model Thompson Speedway Championship hit a major turning point on Jan 20, 2026, with Race 3 marking the halfway point of the six-race chase. After two rounds that reshaped the leaderboard, the third event delivered another big swing—this time with a brand-new winner, a returning driver stepping onto the podium, and a points battle that’s now separated by just a couple of finishing positions.
Randy Hedrick made his first-ever start in the series—and immediately made it count. The start was tense from the jump when Hedrick spun the tires and bunched up the field, setting the stage for a frantic opening stretch. Dylan Schriner grabbed the early spotlight by leading the first five laps, but after he pulled in, the race was wide open for someone to seize control and run with it.
That “someone” was Hedrick. Once Hedrick inherited the lead, he was able to settle in, control the pace, and take the checkered flag for a perfect debut: quick time plus the win for the maximum 13-point night. In a championship where the bonus point can become the difference between leading and chasing, Hedrick couldn’t have drawn up a better opening statement.
Behind the winner, Aidan Strawberry put together his strongest overall showing of the season so far. Strawberry rolled off sixth and turned his best start of the year into a runner-up finish worth 11 points, and that result proved massive for the standings. Dominic Chisholm completed the podium in third in his second career start—his first start since 2023—instantly inserting himself into the mix at Thompson with a 10-point performance.
Lake Mills added a strong fourth-place run after starting eighth, while Davis Warren quietly stacked another solid points night in fifth. Warren’s drive from 11th to 5th was the biggest gain in the field, making him the hard charger of Race 3. Even deeper in the order, Mason Cassidy2 showed serious pace by ripping the fastest lap of the race (20.172), a reminder that raw speed is out there throughout the field—and could become a huge factor as the season moves into its final three races.
Race 3 also produced some of the biggest “swing” nights of the season. Schriner went from leading early to finishing ninth, and Peyton Hamlett fell from fourth to 11th. Those kinds of point losses are hard to recover in a six-race format, especially now that the championship has crossed the halfway mark and the top of the standings is tightening up.
And that points picture is exactly why Race 3 mattered so much. Strawberry jumped two positions to take over the championship lead with 28 points, despite still searching for his first win—consistency has been his weapon so far. Warren sits just two points back in second, and DeWeese is only four off the lead in third with a win already in his pocket, meaning the title fight is still completely in reach for multiple drivers. With three races remaining and 13 points available on any given night, this battle is far from settled—and the next round could flip the order again in a single run.
