Diesel Jones2 made a major statement in the iRacing Champions League Pro Late Model West Regional Championship, winning Round 6 at Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 in his first start of the series. Jones started from the pole, led all 30 laps, earned the qualifying bonus point, and finished off a perfect 13-point night. With the win, he immediately jumped into the top 10 in the championship standings despite only making one series start.
The race was controlled from the start by Jones, who went unchallenged out front and set the tone early. His 12.525 fastest lap was also the quickest lap of the race, making it a complete performance from qualifying through the finish. It was the kind of night that can quickly shake up a short championship format, especially with only one race left after I-55.
Behind Jones, Brayden E Carter delivered a key championship run by finishing second after starting fifth. Carter did not win the race, but the 11-point result was enough to move him back to the top of the Pro Late Model West Regional Championship standings. With Landon Murray not entering the event, Carter turned a seven-point deficit after Huset’s into a four-point lead heading into the final race of the season.
Jase Lien finished third in just his second career ICL start, earning his best career finish. Aiden Snead continued his strong recent form with a fourth-place finish, which was also the best finish of his career in his 14th career start. Jon Phillips3 rounded out the top five in his first career start in over a year, tying his career-best finish in his eighth career start.
The biggest mover of the race was James Woodard6, who climbed from 13th to eighth and gained five spots. Doug Welch also moved forward from 15th to 11th, while Brandon Jensen gained one spot to finish 10th. The toughest night in terms of lost positions belonged to Marty Salmons, who started second and finished 14th, while Blake Cannon started fourth and finished 15th.
The championship battle is now set up for a dramatic final race. Carter leads with 37 points, while Landon Murray sits four points back with 33. Gavin Murray remains third with 22 points, while Michael D Carter and Aiden Snead are tied for fourth at 16. Carter’s return to the top spot is the biggest championship swing from I-55, but with one race remaining and 13 points available for a perfect night, Landon Murray is still very much in the title fight.
