The World Series of Asphalt at rolled into tonight’s program with the ICL Trucks taking center stage for a 40-lap main event. With 30 minutes of open qualifying setting the grid and no shortage of pressure on a demanding short track, this round added another key piece to the early-season puzzle—especially with the points battle already tightening after four races counted for the series leaders.

At the front, Braxton Deweese delivered a complete, untouched performance. Deweese led 40 laps, paced the field with a fastest lap of 18.931, and converted it into a statement win that also marked his 9th career ICL victory in his 24th start. When a driver controls the pace from start to finish at New Smyrna, it’s rarely luck—this was precision, clean execution, and the kind of night that can define a season run whenever he shows up.

Behind him, points leader Brayden E Carter kept the momentum rolling with a strong runner-up finish. Carter’s consistency continues to be the backbone of his championship position—another high points night that protects the lead and keeps the pressure on everyone chasing. With the series scoring paying 12 points to win and one less per position, every spot matters, and Carter banked the kind of result that wins titles when the schedule gets unpredictable.

Third went to Beau Gillogly2, who turned in a solid drive to land on the podium and add another meaningful haul to his season total. Gillogly’s finish also helps explain why the standings are quickly getting crowded behind the leader—drivers who show up and grab top-threes are instantly in the conversation, especially in a series where some contenders have fewer starts logged than others.

The night’s toughest break belonged to Doug Welch, who came in as a major point contender and had his race end early after getting turned around on the front stretch. It’s a costly hit in a format where even a mid-pack finish can be the difference between gaining ground and losing it. Welch still sits second in points, but the gap to the top is now one of the early storylines that will define the next few rounds.

In the standings after tonight, Carter remains the driver to beat with 46 points, holding a 10-point advantage over Welch at 36. After that, it’s a stacked fight: Kaleb Smith2 (23) and Michael Mennenga (22) are separated by just a point, and the next wave includes single-start winners Joey Conner and Braxton Deweese already sitting on 13 apiece. With the series continuing to rotate divisions, the next round brings a new car, a new driving style, and a real opportunity for the leaderboard to reshuffle again—especially with Late Model Stock Cars up next.
