The King of Martinsville Speedway series returned to Martinsville Speedway for Race 7, and the Tour Modified division delivered one of the tighter battles of the season so far. Devin Gullo came away with the victory after starting sixth and racing his way to the front in a 25-lap feature that saw multiple lead changes among the frontrunners. It was the first win of Gullo’s iRacing Champions League career, and it came in just his third career start. In a series that has already produced several first-time winners, Gullo added his name to that growing list with a timely breakthrough at one of the most important points of the championship.
Gullo’s drive to victory was not a runaway. Casey Wynn stayed in the fight throughout the feature and finished second after starting from the outside of the front row. The two swapped the lead for several laps, with Wynn staying within a couple car lengths all the way to the finish. That pressure made Gullo’s win stand out even more, because he had to earn it against one of the most experienced and successful drivers in the field. Wynn’s runner-up finish was still a major result for the championship, especially with the title fight tightening as the series moved deeper into its final stretch.
Behind the lead duo, Dylan Schriner continued his strong form with a third-place finish, giving him another top-three run in only his second start of the series. Aidan Strawberry finished fourth and once again added valuable points to his season total, while Brayden E Carter crossed the line fifth to keep himself firmly in the title fight. Jason Melson turned in one of the more important runs of the night in sixth, and Nathan Henderson3 followed in seventh. Peyton Worden2, Michael Bennett2, and Lincoln Raper completed the top 10, while Ethan Johnson rounded out the finishing order.
The race also featured a notable fastest lap statistic from Gullo, who recorded the quickest circuit of the event with an 18.847. That helped underline just how complete his performance was, especially considering he also led a race-high 14 laps. Wynn led seven laps of his own, and Carter added four laps led, making this one of the more contested races of the King of Martinsville Speedway season to date. From a position-gain standpoint, Gullo was the hard charger among the top finishers, moving from sixth on the grid to the win. Ethan Johnson had the toughest night in terms of finishing position compared to his starting spot, dropping from pole position to 11th by race end.
The championship picture tightened again after the points were added, but Wynn’s 11-point effort allowed him to extend his overall King of Martinsville Speedway lead to 59 points. Aidan Strawberry remained second with 50, while Brayden E Carter sat third with 49, keeping the fight at the top extremely close with two races left. Carter had been one of the most consistent drivers all season, but Wynn’s ability to keep stacking wins and runner-up finishes continued to pay off at exactly the right time. Strawberry’s steady fourth-place finish kept him in strong position as well, while Dylan Schriner jumped three spots to fourth after backing up his earlier win with another podium. Tommy J Kreymborg slipped to fifth, though his two runner-up finishes earlier in the series still kept him within range of the front.
What makes the standings so compelling now is how different the paths to contention have been. Wynn had combined race-winning speed with consistency and now sits in control with only two rounds remaining. Strawberry has yet to win, but his ability to stay near the front has kept him planted in second. Carter, after leading much of the early portion of the season, now finds himself chasing but still very much alive in the fight. Schriner has only made two starts and already sits fourth, showing just how powerful a win-plus-podium combination can be in this format. With so little margin remaining, every finishing position from here forward carries even more weight.
The Tour Modified round continued the trend that has defined this first King of Martinsville Speedway season at Martinsville Speedway: no one can afford an off night. Gullo’s first career win added another new face to the winner’s list, Wynn used a runner-up finish to strengthen his grip on the championship lead, and Strawberry and Carter remained locked in a battle just behind him. Race 7 did not decide the title, but it added even more pressure heading into the closing rounds of the series.
