The ICL Mini Stock Central Region Championship rolled into Lanier National Speedway, and Round 5 delivered a packed night of racing with 49 cars entered and only a handful able to separate themselves once the feature got rolling. When it was over, Casey Wynn added another win to his season, continuing to build a points cushion as the championship heads toward the final stretch.
The fight for the lead was intense right from the start. Kooper Guralski and Bailey Threet went side-by-side for the first three laps, setting a fast, aggressive tone at the front. But once Wynn got into the mix, the race quickly pivoted. Wynn worked his way past both early leaders, and from there he began to methodically stretch the gap — slowly pulling away and controlling the pace to the checkered.
Wynn’s speed backed up the dominance. He led 32 of 35 laps and set the fastest lap of the race (15.728), a combination that shows just how strong his car was once he got clean air. In a points format that pays 12 points to win, one less per finishing position, plus 1 point for qualifying fast time, those types of nights don’t just win races — they build championships. And with the season now five rounds deep, Wynn’s ability to stack wins is becoming the defining storyline of the title chase.
Behind the winner, the podium was full of notable performances and key points swings. Kooper Guralski finished 2nd in his first career ICL start, instantly putting his name on the radar in the Central Region field. Brayden E Carter rounded out the top three in 3rd, continuing to chip away at the chase group behind the points leader. Dylan Calkins also stood out with a strong run to 4th in only his second career start — and after flipping in an early incident, he still fought back to score a career-best finish, turning what could have been a night-ending moment into a breakthrough result.
One of the biggest point-makers in the entire race was Trey Pinder, who earned clear hard-charger honors by driving from 17th to 5th (+12). Those kinds of gains matter even more in this scoring system because every position is worth a point, and a charge like that can swing the standings quickly as the season winds down. On the other end of the spectrum, Bailey Threet had one of the tougher result lines after starting 1st and finishing 11th (–10), though he did grab the qualifying fast time bonus point, which helped soften the points damage on a night where track position proved everything.
With the updated standings, the championship is starting to get defined — and the pressure is shifting to the drivers trying to close Wynn’s gap with two races remaining in the 7-race season. Wynn now sits at 57 points, holding a 30-point advantage over Doug Welch in second. But the battle behind second is tight: Brayden E Carter is only 7 points behind Welch, and Owen J Wilson is right behind Carter, meaning one big night can reshuffle the entire chase pack even if the points lead is growing.
