The Charlotte Road Legends Championship opened with a strong first race for the iRacing Champions League, as Braxton Deweese claimed the win in the opening round of ICL’s first-ever road course series. The new ICL Legends championship began at the Charlotte road course, with Deweese holding off Tim Brockhouse after the two traded control of the lead throughout a competitive 10-lap race.
Deweese’s victory adds another major result to his ICL career. The win marked his 12th career ICL victory in his 28th career start, giving him one of the strongest résumés in the field as the new road course series begins. Deweese started second, led three laps, set the fastest lap of the race at 41.583, and left the opener tied at the top of the points standings.
Brockhouse made an immediate impression in his first career ICL start. He started from the pole, earned the Quick Time bonus, led a race-high seven laps, and finished second. Because ICL scoring awards 12 points to the winner and 11 points for second, with one additional point for Quick Time, Brockhouse finished the night tied with Deweese at 12 points after the opener.
The race for the win was one of the main stories of the night, with Deweese and Brockhouse going back and forth for a healthy portion of the event. Brockhouse had the early speed and led the most laps, but Deweese was able to come away with the race win and the early advantage in the championship order. With five races still remaining, that small edge could become important as the series begins to take shape.
Bryan Gravill finished third after starting fifth, giving him 10 points and a strong opening position in the standings. Frédéric Lavoie finished fourth in just his second career ICL start, with his last start coming back in 2023. Gabriel Flageole also had a strong debut, finishing fifth in his first career ICL start and opening the series inside the top five in points.
Brey Holmes finished sixth, followed by Daniel Harsey, Wyatt Blair, Steven Chunn, and Gage Halpin to complete the top 10. Ryan Hinchliffe was the hard charger of the race, gaining eight positions from 22nd to 14th. The toughest night by position loss belonged to Marc Morrissette, who started ninth and finished 21st.
With this being the first race of the Charlotte Road Legends Championship, the points standings mirror the opening race results with the Quick Time bonus included. Deweese and Brockhouse are tied at 12 points, while Gravill sits third with 10. Lavoie, Flageole, Holmes, Harsey, Blair, Chunn, and Halpin round out the early top 10. With six total rounds planned across various Charlotte road course configurations, the championship is just getting started.
