Jacob R Cannon made his return to ICL competition count in a major way, scoring his first career victory in Round 7 of the Modified National Tour at Limaland Motorsports Park. Making his first ICL start since 2024 and just the ninth start of his career, Cannon started from the pole, led 26 of 30 laps and collected the qualifying bonus to leave Limaland with a perfect 13-point night.
Cannon established himself at the front immediately, but the race was not completely without a challenge. Darren Diggs led four laps during the feature before Cannon regained control and ultimately finished the job. Cannon crossed the line just 0.188 seconds ahead of Andy Hunter, making the return victory an especially strong result after such a long absence from competition.
Hunter put together one of the biggest charges of the Modified National Tour season. Starting 15th, he drove all the way to second for a gain of 13 positions, easily earning hard-charger honors. Hunter also recorded the fastest lap of the race at 12.943 seconds, showing that he had the pace to contend at the front once he worked his way through the field. Diggs completed the podium in third and added another valuable 10 points to his championship total.
The rest of the top five featured Braydon Martin in fourth and Chase Lewis in fifth. Martin started second and remained inside the lead group throughout the night, while Lewis climbed from 12th to fifth for a seven-position gain. Kolby Keeler finished sixth, Bradly Pierce seventh, Clay Hansen2 eighth and Anthony Ely ninth. Dominique Courtney completed the top 10 after starting 14th.
The biggest championship development came from Diggs. His third-place finish pushed him to 42 points, moving him up two positions and leaving him just one point behind championship leader Aidan Strawberry. Strawberry remains first with 43, while Doug Welch sits third with 34 and Tanner Riedel fourth with 33. The top four are now separated by only 10 points with 14 races still remaining in the 21-race Modified National Tour season.
Behind that lead group, Brayden E Carter holds fifth with 25 points, followed by Jensen Pray2 with 18 and Kenny Douglas with 14. Holden Lee Allen and Jacob R Cannon are tied with 13 points, while Bradley W Carter rounds out the top 10 with 12. Cannon’s victory immediately launches him into the championship top 10 despite making his first start of the season.
With seven rounds complete, the Modified National Tour championship is beginning to tighten rather than spread out. Strawberry has held the advantage, but Diggs has now closed to within a single point. Welch and Riedel remain close enough to erase their deficits with one big night, and with 13 points available through a win and qualifying bonus, the standings can change rapidly from race to race.

The Modified National Tour heads to Port Royal Speedway for Round 8. With Strawberry and Diggs separated by only one point and Welch and Riedel still within striking distance, the next stop will carry another opportunity for the championship picture to change.
