Round 5 of the Pro Lite Lucas Oil Off Road Track Championship delivered exactly what you want from the penultimate race of a season: a fierce battle for the win, a stacked podium, and a championship picture that is now perfectly balanced heading into the finale. For the second race in a row, the night belonged to Sean Winkler, who backed up his debut victory with another win at Lucas Oil Speedway. This time it came at the end of an all-race duel with title contender Zach Amspacher, a fight that went right down to the final lap and ultimately helped lock the points battle into a dead heat with one round to go.
From the drop of the green, the race was defined by the front row. Amspacher started from pole again and claimed the all-important QuickTime bonus with 1 qualifying point, then backed it up with race pace that kept him out front in the early going. Zach led the first four laps and set the fastest lap of the race at 1:15.797 on lap two, showing the same one-lap and long-run speed that has carried him into title contention all season. But as the race approached halfway, Winkler’s pressure started to tell. Sean worked his way past and took over the lead, then controlled the final four laps with Zach locked to his rear bumper. At the line, the margin was just 0.201 seconds, with Winkler earning 12 points for the win and Zach banking 11 plus the 1-point QuickTime bonus for a 12-point night of his own.
Behind the lead duo, the podium was completed by a standout drive from a brand-new name to the series. In his first career Pro Lite Lucas Oil Off Road Track Championship start, David Holdren turned a fifth-place starting spot into a third-place finish. His best lap of 1:16.461 was right in the mix with the front runners, and he kept things clean over eight laps to score 10 points and instantly slot himself into the top 10 in the standings. Just behind him, championship co-leader Aidan Strawberry put together another solid night, starting third and finishing fourth with a best lap of 1:16.457. It was his fifth straight top-five in five starts, adding 9 more points to his total and making sure he did exactly what he needed to do to stay level with Amspacher at the top of the board. Rounding out the top five, Dusty Fincher continued his season of quiet consistency with another strong run from sixth to fifth, scoring 8 points and further cementing his hold on third place in the standings.
The middle of the top 10 featured some of the biggest movers of the night. Banks Hovey backed up his earlier appearances with another solid outing, taking his fourth-place starting spot home in sixth and adding 7 valuable points after a tough previous result. Just behind him, rookie Ben Joly produced one of the more impressive drives of the race, climbing from 11th to seventh to gain four positions and score 6 points on the night. The biggest hard charger honors, however, belonged to Mladen Lakovic, who stormed from 20th on the grid to finish ninth, a gain of 11 spots that turned what could have been a back-row struggle into a strong 4-point result. Other notable climbers included Dylan Schriner (13th to 10th) and Doug Welch (22nd to 11th), both of whom made forward progress in a deep, competitive field.
Deeper in the order, several drivers endured rougher nights that will shape their final-season finishing positions even if they aren’t directly in the title fight. Mario Dinatale ran solid laps but slipped from 10th at the start to 13th at the finish. Brayden E Carter and Kyle Reeder both spent time inside the top half of the field but ended the evening with scoring invalidated and were classified 14th and 16th, respectively. Newcomers like Jb Roe, Devin Brannon, Matthew Shultz, Lee Winters, Andy Snider, and Ean Stock all logged their first or early series appearances with varying degrees of difficulty, many of them ending the night multiple laps down or disconnected. On a night when the leaders were separated by tenths, the back half of the field was separated by survival and execution more than outright pace.
The big story, though, is what Round 5 did to the points race. With the Pro Lite Track Championship using a format of 1 point for QuickTime, 12 points for the win, 11 for second, and one point less per position down the order, the margins at the top are razor thin. After five of six races, the standings now show a deadlock: both Aidan Strawberry and Zach Amspacher sit on 50 points. Strawberry has built his total on relentless consistency, with five starts and five top-five finishes. Amspacher has matched him using a different path: four starts, two wins, four podiums, and a perfect 4-for-4 record on qualifying bonuses. Behind them, Fincher remains third on 34 points, 16 behind the co-leaders and mathematically out of championship contention but firmly in control of the fight for the final podium spot in the standings. Holley and Winkler are now tied for fourth on 24 points, with Holley’s five starts and Winkler’s two wins in two appearances creating an interesting contrast heading into the finale.
With only one race left in the six-event Pro Lite Lucas Oil Off Road Track Championship, the title is now a straight fight between Strawberry and Amspacher. Each can score a maximum of 13 points in the finale (12 for the win and 1 for QuickTime), and they enter the deciding round level on 50. If one of them can sweep qualifying and the race, the math is simple. If they run nose-to-tail again, the battle will come down to single positions and, if needed, series tiebreakers based on wins and top-five finishes. Behind them, third through tenth in the standings are still very much up for grabs, with drivers like Fincher, Holley, Winkler, McGlothlin, Dunn, Holdren, and others all in position to make one final push.
